How To Get Motivated

- The only thing you really need to know.

“The future belongs to those who prepare for it today”

~Malcom X

It doesn't matter what kind of future you're preparing for, if you don’t get serious about achieving your goals, you’ll end up losing motivation before things even start to get good.  But achieving goals is hard work, how do you get motivated? There's only one thing you need to do: Create a big enough reason WHY so that you don’t give up when the going get’s tough.

You need this exercise if you've done any of this when trying to achieve goals in the past:

  • Lost motivation when things got difficult or confusing

  • Felt criticized when people asked you questions about what you were working on

  • Found yourself working really hard and getting nowhere.

Don't worry. This happens to everyone and I know what to do!

It’s time for you to start thinking about what deeper motives are behind what you are doing. In order to succeed in life and achieve your goals, you need to know WHY you want what you want. And not only that, you have to have a BIG ENOUGH reason. If you're not motivated or haven’t followed through in the past, it may be because you need to DREAM BIGGER and DIG DEEPER to make sure you have a true understanding of the REAL reasons you want to reach your goals.

You want to make sure that the goals you set now will actually make you feel happy when you achieve them vs wasting all your time only to find you don’t want what you’ve been working so hard for…

Try this exercise if you want to clarify your WHY so you can get serious about achieving your goals. This is important to do especially if you’ve set goals in the past but don’t have a strong history of following through. This exercise will help you figure out where to get your motivation from.

Before you get started...

Look at one of your goals that you set for the year. If you have more than one goal, do this exercise for each goal.

If you haven’t set any goals yet, check out:

It’s important to do this exercise even if you think you already know why you’re doing what you're doing. A lot of what we think, comes from our beliefs and the perceptions that are built around those beliefs. What that means is that sometimes we’re focused on things we think we “SHOULD” be focused on, instead of the things we WANT to be focused on. It’s easy to get stuck in that trap when you don’t know why you’re doing what you’re doing because you haven't taken the time to dig deep.

The Exercise:

  • What is your goal?

  • How come you want to achieve it?

  • What about that outcome makes you want it so badly?

  • And why do you want that?

  • And why do you want that?

  • And why do you want that?

Continue to ask yourself WHY until you get to the core reason you desire your goal. Studies show it takes asking yourself “why” five time before you get down to the core reason.

How did it go?

Let me know how this exercise worked for you. What was the difference between your answer to your first “why” compared with the last? Your last “why” is gonna be the thing that keeps you motivated through your journey to achieving your goals!

I can't wait to read your comments.
